THE JOB / CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Operations and Maintenance Power Plant Manager for our renewable energy facility in Somerset West, Western Cape. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the technical, administrative, and interpersonal aspects of plant operations and maintenance, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance. This role involves supervising a team of approximately 5 employees, managing contractors, and liaising with various stakeholders.

 

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and resolve faults within the plant.
  • Manage, supervise, and conduct repairs and replacement of components.
  • Monitor and control the plant through the monitoring platform.
  • Supervise and conduct switching activities up to 33kV.
  • Manage, supervise, and conduct preventative and corrective maintenance.

 

Administrative/Operational Responsibilities:

  • Complete all reporting requirements related to plant operations.
  • Complete and submit incident and investigative reports.
  • Adhere to the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract.
  • Comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to project budgets.
  • Manage warranty claims and interact with suppliers.

 

Interpersonal Responsibilities:

  • Manage all personnel on-site, including approximately 5 employees with diverse backgrounds and at various levels.
  • Manage contractors when required.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, such as the client, engineers, management, and equipment suppliers.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external clients.
  • Effectively manage and communicate with community representatives.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Ensure plant availability meets contractual targets.
  • Meet performance ratio targets specified in the contract.
  • Optimize profitability of the plant.
  • Manage, monitor, and improve Health and Safety statistics.
  • Ensure compliance with all O&M contractual reporting.
  • Plan and execute maintenance effectively.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Driver’s License (at least Code B).
  • Minimum BTech/National Diploma in Electrical Engineering, higher qualifications advantageous.
  • Possession of GCC (Factories) under the OHS Act is advantageous.
  • Experience of GMR 2(1) or GMR 2(7) appointment under the OHS Act is advantageous.
  • Project management experience or further study in management is advantageous.
  • 5+ years of relevant technical experience and at least 2 years of management or supervisory experience in a production maintenance environment.
  • Understanding of power system protection, relays, and breaker operation.
  • Large-scale solar PV experience, Genset experience.
  • Understanding of plant monitoring systems.
  • Experience with Operations and Maintenance contracts.
  • Ability to conduct switching activities and be authorized to switch (Authorized Person with reference to ORHVS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive and able to work independently.
  • Willingness to be on standby during weekends and after hours.
  • Able to perform physical site work and obtain a medical fitness certificate as per Annexure 3 of OHS Act Construction Regulations.
  • Fully proficient in English (verbal and written communication), additional language beneficial.
  • Fully computer literate (MS Office Suite and Google App Suite).
  • Strong organizational, planning, scheduling, and prioritization skills.

THE JOB / CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Operations and Maintenance Site Technician is a critical role responsible for maintaining the optimal performance of a large-scale Hybrid Solar PV / Genset Power Plant. This position involves performing scheduled maintenance activities and overseeing control room operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable energy production.

 

Scheduled Maintenance:

  • Execute routine inspections, cleaning, and maintenance activities on solar panels, inverters, tracking systems, and associated components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks and follow maintenance schedules to ensure system reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose technical issues, conducting repairs or initiating maintenance work orders when necessary.

Control Room Operations:

  • Operate and monitor the control room, including real-time system performance and data collection.
  • Respond to alarms, deviations, and anomalies in plant operation.
  • Implement control strategies to optimize energy production and system efficiency.

 

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Participate in safety audits and contribute to corrective actions.

 

Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Collect and record operational and maintenance data, including plant performance metrics.
  • Assist in training and mentoring less-experienced team members.

Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to coordinate activities and share technical insights.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Driver’s License (at least Code B).
  • Must possess electrical qualifications or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 2 years of experience in genset and solar installation or solar operations and maintenance, preferably with extensive experience in large-scale installations.
  • Possess knowledge of SCADA and communication systems, which would be considered an advantage.
  • Preferably have completed ORHVS training (Authorized Person) and be capable of performing live and remote switching duties.
  • Exhibit the ability to analyze electrical network and mechanical system events and failures.
  • Experience with electrical protection schemes and electrical metering systems
  • Work effectively as part of a team and independently, with strong interpersonal skills.

As a Solar PV Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and engineering solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Responsibilities:

  1. System Design: Design and engineer solar PV systems by conducting feasibility studies, site assessments, and energy production analyses. Experience with PV Sol / PV Syst is mandatory. Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience with Homer and Retscreen Simulation software.

  5. Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with local, regional, and national codes, standards, and regulations related to solar PV system design and installation. Ensure designs and installations adhere to safety guidelines and obtain necessary permits and certifications.
  6. Supplier and Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to source high-quality solar PV components and equipment. Evaluate technical specifications and conduct vendor assessments to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry best practices.
  7. Quality Assurance: Develop and implement quality assurance procedures to verify the accuracy and integrity of solar PV system designs. Conduct inspections and audits during the installation and commissioning stages to ensure adherence to design specifications.
  8. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, and installation technicians, to ensure seamless project execution. Required Skills:

– Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.

The primary role of design engineers is to design, simulate, cost and prepare proposals for rooftop and ground mounted PV systems according to the company’s standard practices as well as South African legal standards.

The job/core responsibilities

Solar System Engineering Costing & Designs

• Liaising with stakeholders, performing site inspections, compiling site inspection reports.

• Full electrical and physical design of rooftop, ground mount and hybrid PV projects & large-scale energy efficient hot water solutions to customer requirements.

• Costing of designs and preparation of proposals; simulation of systems using PVSol & ensuring systems are designed in accordance with their relevant standards.

Design Drawings

General

• Preparation of BOQs for solar systems and providing support to the procurement department.
